Hopefully you as a coffee consumer haven't noticed... but as a coffee roaster it's been very difficult accessing high quality beans from Colombia...
I consider Colombia to be the origin most open to experimental processing. This means that Colombia produces some of the most remarkably expressive coffees I have ever experienced. The origin is also a key source of beans for our Summer Hill and Ashfield blends.
The country first experienced poor weather conditions, significantly delaying coffee harvesting. We started seeing this a few months ago, and one of the upsides to this was that we located a couple of excellent new Colombian bean partners which have seen a rise in quality of our blends.
Most recently Colombia has suffered earthquakes which have slowed production further.
We're expecting the latest batch of a super special coffee in late September... the La Riviera Nitro Maceration, a coffee which smells and tastes distinctively of honeydew melon and which elicited one of my favourite reviews of all time!
"Is there an Overton window for coffee? If so I think that Nitro has shifted mine way to the left."
I had to ask Google what an Overton window is!
I'll let you know via this newsletter when the Nitro is back in stock.
As a quick aside, the Fermentation Project pre-order offer was incredibly exciting. It sold out in less than 36 hours and demonstrated the power of James Hoffmann's massive social media following! Would you mind doing us a favour and following us on Instagram please?
