Our new favourite coffee scale...

Our new favourite coffee scale...

We have a new favourite coffee scale on the brew bench... drum roll please!

Exactly one year ago (who would have credited this???), I wrote a blog post about the BOOKOO Themis Mini coffee scale.  I really liked that scale then, and I still like it very much.  In fact one feature of the scale changed how I extracted espresso, and that was its ability to measure flow rate (please see this blog post to go down that rabbit warren).

Back when I wrote the original blog post, I had one complaint with the Themis Mini, a complaint which was very clear from its name.  The scale was too small!  It wasn't large enough to manage a pour over set up.

Well BOOKOO have released the Themis Ultra, a scale which I think is literally perfect... there is not one thing I'd change!

The dimensions of the Ultra are 11.2 cm long x 12.7 cm wide x 1.8 cm high.  Compare that to the Mini at 8 cm long x 8 cm wide x 1.5 cm high.

There are a couple of other benefits to the Ultra.  The first is that the rechargeable battery is three times the capacity of the Mini... and, amazingly, the Ultra is CHEAPER than the Mini.

Unfortunately, I have no financial relationship with BOOKOO!  But if you'd like to take a look at this wonderful product then please click here.

Finally I thought I'd post up a review of one of our recent Limited Edition Espresso roasts - the Colombia Campo Hermoso Pink Bourbon Natural Rose Mossto Co-Fermented:

"So we just opened the latest Prototyper yesterday (the rose coferment). I am playing around with different extraction profiles, and I really like the Decent Adaptive profile, which is designed for light and medium roasts that are fruity/floral. Has a rapid fill, pause to saturate and then flow priority (rather than pressure) with the whole shot taking 20-24 seconds. Pulling at a 1:2 ratio I am getting a super sweet and juicy shot with Turkish delight and boiled lollies. Very delicious." KM

Limited Edition roasts are, ahem, limited... so get in quick!
