Taste subjectivity has a genetic basis...

What you taste is different to what I taste...

I've gone down a small rabbit warren about the aroma and taste receptors we possess which allow our brains to interact with the physical world in terms of smell and taste.  It turns out that there are significant genetic differences when it comes to both smell and taste receptors.  One dramatic example of this is individuals' genetically inherited ability to discern the aroma of violets, which comes from a compound called beta-ionone.  It turns out that only about half of the population can readily smell violets and that's due to the frequency of a specific genetic allele.

The quick summary is that we all perceive taste and smell differently because of our differing genetic backgrounds, and we will therefore all have our own taste and smell preferences.

Truly, your mileage may vary!
