I was intending to write a note about the factors driving the rise in cost of coffee… but the day seems to have slipped away from me and it also felt a little too soon given the Reserve Bank’s 50 bp interest rate hike yesterday. So this will be a shorter email than usual…
My 14-year-old daughter likes to drink both flat whites and piccolos. Yesterday morning I asked which she wanted to have. Her response… “how old is the roast?”
I was gobsmacked, flabbergasted, a little (maybe very) proud, and also quite horrified. The old admonition “be careful what you wish for” thundered through my brain.
It turns out that she prefers the Croydon Espresso Blend in its second week post roast. She thinks that the flavours are more integrated. I agree. What did you she end up drinking? A flat white. Once the blend has properly matured she is happy to enjoy the more intense coffee flavours offered up by the piccolo format.
