Building on our relationship with Mount Kenya

It's very exciting sourcing super high quality green beans from emerging suppliers...

At Garage Roasters, we took a punt when Mount Kenya brought their first shipment of divine Kenyan beans into the country and we've been in love with their coffee ever since.  A couple of months ago, we caught up with Kabi, the founder of Mount Kenya, at the Sydney Café and Coffee Show and have purchased more stellar beans from this company.  Our Mount Kenya Kiamaina Nyeri offering will shortly shift to Karunguru Estate, a family-owned business founded in 1974 by Geoffrey Karekia Kariithi, now in its third generation of coffee growing.

Located in Juja near Nairobi on rich volcanic soil at 1,685 metres above sea level, the farm spans around 500 acres and specialises in single-origin Arabica, growing the SL28, Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties.  Every stage is managed on-site, from planting and farm husbandry through to harvesting, processing, roasting and packaging.  The family's hands-on approach has carried through each generation since the farm first began producing coffee in 1928, and that continuity of care and knowledge is central to what this estate produces.
