So I bought another portafilter basket...
It's like a compulsion for me... I go through portafilter baskets faster than I lose socks to my pair of golden retrievers.
I'm also clearly highly suggestible. I quite like watching Lance Hedrick's YouTube videos on all things coffee. I have previously referenced one of his videos on coffee puck aspect ratio - the relevant blog can be found here. In this blog I purchased a huge 25 g VST portafilter basket in order to try out a difference in aspect ratio. I've been using this portafilter basket ever since.
But the sirens have been calling and I've now purchased the 58 mm to 49 mm Sworksdesign step down billet basket. To be completely clear, I have no relationship with Sworksdesign other than having followed on Instagram and also having been very impressed with what I can see of the workmanship via the narrow portal of internet images. I'm looking forward to seeing if I also perceive a significant benefit to 49 mm diameter pucks... the improvements are supposed to be more consistent extractions, better texture and reduction in bitterness.
I'll let you know when I receive the basket and have tried it out!
